Kerrits emerged in 1986, when Kerri Kent was searching for ways to create athletic wear that not only fit well, but also flattered womanly figures. As a windsurfer, she was appalled by ill-fitting bathing suits, and thus began her quest by purchasing only 50$ worth of materials to create her own. The new bathingsuit line, which flourished under the watchful eyes of Kerri and her business partner, Michele McAlpine, grabbed the attention of an equestrian company’s CEO. The latter wished for the two women to design clothing for women who ride, and so Kerrits Equestrian was born.
Lodged in the Pacific Northwest, Kerrits is able to test its gear in the harsh sun, sheets of rain, intense winds and muds. With access to local barns, the company is able to add horse and dog hair, dust and hay to the equation, making their headquarters a “product-testing” paradise for equestrian clothing. This ensures that Kerrits can offer their customers thoroughly tested items that will prevail despite the harsh nature of barn life.
