Schott’s development is surely one of the best examples of American success stories there is. Handmade for the last 200 years, the brand’s styles are nothing short of iconic. As New York’s 1913 streets were bustling, a Russian immigrant’s two sons chased the American Dream. From their Lower East Side Manhattan basement, Jack and Irving Schott were hard at work, fabricating raincoats that would later be sold by street peddlers’ door to door. The Schott brothers were eager to provide Americans with innovative wear that would last. And innovation is exactly what the pair delivered: by 1920, Schott NYC had become the first brand to ever integrate a zipper into a jacket! They did not stop there, though. Irving and Jack were fascinated by yet another American classic: the motorcycle. This lead them to manufacture the first-ever leather motorcycle jacket: the Perfecto. The Perfecto was followed by Schott’s first bomber jacket, designed to serve American soldiers amidst the Second World War. For the 60 years that followed the war, Schott continued to produce leather and wool jackets for the US Military. In Post-War America, the brand became an icon. Associating with the punk rock movement in the 70’s and 80’s, Schott jackets were the classic uniform for rockstars such as The Ramones, Blondie and Joan Rett. The brand really shaped American wear, and even after expanding internationally, Schott remains operated by third and fourth generations of the family, just like old times.
