A powerful draft horse native to France, the Ardennes is one of the oldest draft horse breeds. Originating in the Ardennes region of Belguim and France, these horses had to be hardy to work through the rough terrain, which was laden with forests and hills. They also provided transport for several military campaigns. The muscular and heavy-boned Ardennes stands 15-16hh, yet can weigh up to 2200 pounds.
